The date 15th July, 2010 will mark a new milestone in India’s aviation history, when the Airbus A 380, the largest passenger aircraft in the world will land at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport’s Terminal 3. The one-off flight would be commissioned by Emirates Airline. The development comes on the heels of the inauguration of the new world class terminal 3 at the IGI Airport. In fact, this special Dubai to Delhi flight will be marking the new terminal’s launch.
The EK516 flight is scheduled to land at the new Terminal 3 at 14:50 hours before being flown back to Dubai as EK517 at 17:50 hours. Emirates Airline is offering a special one way fare of AED380 plus taxes from Dubai or AED990 plus taxes for return. This special fare is only applicable for this special flight. The flight symbolises that the Indian market is attracting major players in the aviation sector. After all, the new terminal with its capacity to handle about 34 million passengers is among the largest in the world. Logically, this translates as an enormous scope for different airlines to add more flights to India.
Presently, Emirates Airline with eleven A 380s is the biggest operator of this aircraft. The company operates the A 380 services to popular destinations like Auckland, Bangkok, Jeddah, London Heathrow, Seoul, Sydney, Toronto, and Paris. The feelers are that India would probably be joining the ranks. The A 380 has gained worldwide fame for its shower spas and First Class Suites. The aircraft has 14 flat bed First Class Private Suites, while the Business Class has 76 fully flat seats. Similarly, the Economy class covers the lower deck with 427 spacious contoured seats. The fact remains that the A 380 would redefine luxury in the Indian skies if it becomes a regular service.
