Violent protests by the Red Shirts in Thailand

The Thai government may have successfully quelled the two month long violent protests by the Red Shirts, however the situation is going to remain somewhat grim and unpredictable for longer than one can imagine. The months long anarchy has left the country in ruins, especially its capital Bangkok which has been defaced and it would be a long time before the country comes back to grips with time. A country that has tourism as one of the key contributors to its GDP, Thailand has for long been and will continue to be deprived of the international travellers. The governments of most major countries had in wake of the Thai protests advised its citizens against travel to Thailand. Although the government machinery clamped down with brutal force resulting into the leaders of the protest movement finally surrendering, but the fact remains that Thailand is not the place to book your flights to, at least for some time. The worst seems to be over for Thailand. Still, if you have booked any Thailand flights from UK, then stick to the airline advisory and government notification regarding Thailand travel.

On a positive note, it can be surmised that once the situation stabilises the tourism industry would put its best foot forward to make up for all the lost time. In fact, you may look forward to some of the best Thailand flights offers with the situation limping back to normal.

Holidays to Thailand 'will remain popular in 2010'

Holidays to Thailand will remain popular in 2010Travellers will be looking for adventure this year, one travel operator has predicted.

According to STA Travel, thrill-seeking holidaymakers have shown an interest in heading off for adventure breaks, particularly those who are only going away for two weeks.

Destinations such as Bangkok in Thailand and Australia are already proving popular with those keen to book a trip for 2010.

John Constable, group managing director of the firm, commented: "Travellers are becoming increasingly ambitious with their holiday choices as they try to make the most of their time away."

Research carried out by STA Travel revealed that 30 per cent of people surveyed intend to take an adventure holiday this year.

Popular options among respondents to the study were trekking, volunteering and extreme snow or water sports.

Earlier this week, travel journalist Simon Calder noted that tourists can set any level of difficulty or danger when choosing an unusual holiday.
